The fifth-annual Carnival of Darkness: The Haunted Pamlico Film (and Halloween) Festival runs from 5-10 p.m. Sept. 22 at Raised in a Barn Farm, 2100 N.C. Highway 33, Chocowinity; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Turnage Theater, 150 W. Main St., Washington.
Scheduled events include vendors; costumed actors; poi and wand spinners; a music festival sponsored in part by Rock the Pamlico; the Filmmakers Forum, featuring film-industry guests from around the region; screenings highlighting films from across the globe; concessions by Nights of Fright; a Paranormal Panel with ghost hunters gathered by McCabe's Costumes; a Paranormal Experience Tour of the Turnage Theater; the first-ever Haunted Pamlico Folklore Festival, with stories written for the Haunt Season Writing Competition; and "Horror Show III," a variety show staffed by members of the Haunted Pamlico family.
Guests to date include actor Ron Fazio, writer-producer Al Julian, filmmakers Todd Bagley and Justin Oakley, horror host Scary Gary, emcee Malina Macabre, film historian Micah Harris, director Keith Carter, intuitives Beth Moulton and Catherine Ward, emcee Russ Woolard, the Honey Jacks band, and others to be announced.
In addition to the Turnage and our pending nonprofit, Alternative Stage, the festival will aid in raising funds for Ruth's House, a local shelter for victims of domestic violence.
